Boot Camp

In this 2-day intensive, Emmy-winning writer, director-producer, Renee McClellan will coach you through scriptwriting techniques to enhance the stories you want to tell. You will get a workout in the fundamentals of screenwriting through production and build strong muscles in plot and character development.

This in-person workshop will give you the opportunity to network and collaborate with other like-minded screenplay writers and fellow WOCF members.  

Hang out with us at the beautiful Hilton Hotel in Long Beach. There are lots of awesome sights and restaurants to enjoy after class located near the hotel.

Space is limited. Only accepting 25 students.

Renee McClellan
Instructor

Beginning her career as a model, Renee eventually moved on to acting, performing with elite theater groups in Chicago. She later went on to television and was a featured player in Oprah Winfrey's Brewster's Place. With writing being her ultimate passion, she began writing stage production. After producing projects in Chicago and Los Angeles, respectively, she transitioned to film and television. A graduate of Chapman University with a BFA in Film Production, she also has an MFA in Screenwriting from The American Film Institute (AFI). Renee entered the industry with her film,  Beyond the Pretty Door, a multiple award winning project that debuted on BET. Her work has won critical acclaim and numerous awards, including an Emmy for her project, Pick Me. She is currently a professor of film studies at Pepperdine University. A short script she adapted from a feature, ELON, is currently being cast, two scripts, The Bracelet and Til Life Do Us Part, are slated for production, and her chapbook, Lyrics of a Pandemic Soul, is scheduled to be published in the upcoming months.

You do not have to bring a script to this workshop. Renee will provide writing prompts to help with any ideas that are floating around your head. If you are currently working on a script, you are welcome to bring it. If time permits, we will go over the first 10 pages and give you feedback. 

Please bring a means to take notes other than your cell phone. You will need to have either a notebook, laptop or Ipad/tablet. 

Absolutely no videotaping, voice recording or photography will be allowed during the workshop.

11:10am - 12:10pm - RITEwork's 10 "Cs" to Screenwriting/Script to Scene/The 3 Act Structure 

12:10pm - 1:10pm - Lunch

1:10pm - 2:10pm - RITE-A-Round (writing prompt that explores how writing rooms work & plot and character development)

2:10pm - 3:00pm - The RITE Treatment

3:00pm - 3:10pm - break

3:10pm - 4:10pm - The RITE Story vs. Storytelling - Pre-production, Production, Post-Production

4:10pm - 5:00pm - RITEWorking The Pitch (Script Homework assigned)
